As podiatrists and foot specialists, we can utilize higher concentrations of topical treatments for treating verrucas, which are much stronger than those available over the counter.
We conduct a thorough assessment and discuss all available options. Typically, we begin by safely reducing the skin over the verruca using a scalpel. In some cases, laser treatment may be used as well, and depending on the chosen topical treatments we may also incorporate a protective pad to ensure maximum comfort.

60% Salicylic Acid
This professional-strength treatment is for verrucas, as it breaks down thickened skin. As a keratolytic, it breaks down the keratin protein that makes up the verruca.
The typical process includes debriding the verruca, applying the acid with a padding to hold it in place, and keeping it covered for 5-7 days to allow it to take effect.
It's important to keep the foot and dressing completely dry for up to a week or as directed.
Treatments may need to be repeated weekly, with a
maximum of 3 weeks between applications.
Important Considerations: If you have diabetes,
circulation issues, or a child with the flu or chickenpox,
we advise against using this treatment.

Silver Nitrate Sticks 75%
Silver nitrate sticks chemically cauterize and destroy the tissue of a verruca, causing the treated area to stain black before it can be filed away.
What to expect
-
Initial discomfort: You may feel mild discomfort or a burning sensation when the product is applied, which should disappear quickly.
-
Staining: The black stain is a normal side effect and will fade naturally over a few days or weeks.
-
Repeated treatment: You may need to repeat the treatment multiple times.
This is a gentler treatment that can be used on children and adults and is very effective with new verrucas.
We would not usually recommend this treatment for long-lasting, large or multiple verrucas as it would take a long time to see (if any) results.
